The 5 Best Art Classes on the Gold Coast Where Amateurs Become Prodigies

  • Class Variety & Skill Levels: We made sure to pick studios that offer lots of different options, from total beginner classes to advanced sessions. This way, everyone’s covered, no matter their skill level or interest.

  • Instructor Expertise: The talent and hands-on teaching experience of the art instructors really mattered to us. We focused on places run by passionate pros who know how to help students learn and grow.

  • Facilities & Materials: Having a cool, creative space and the right tools is important. We checked if these studios have everything you need, from quality supplies to inspiring environments.

  • Pricing & Value: We wanted upfront pricing and solid value for your money. Class fees needed to be fair and competitive, with no sneaky extra costs.

  • Reputation & Student Feedback: Good reviews from real students were key. Studios with strong reputations and happy customers made it into our guide.

If you’re hoping to unlock your creative side, signing up for a local art lesson is a great way to spend your free time. You might want to dive into oil painting or just hang out with friends for a laid-back afternoon of watercolours.

Either way, there are plenty of studios ready to match whatever vibe you’re after. Still, with so many awesome choices, picking the right art class on the Gold Coast can feel a bit confusing.

That’s why we’ve made this guide to help you find the best places to have fun, get creative, and maybe even make a little mess along the way. Read on!

Customer Reviews:

I would highly recommend Chad’s classes

I attended a ‘sip and paint’ class recently run through the Art Exchange with my sister and sister-in-law. We had such fun painting our much treasured fur babies, and artist Chad was there to guide us every step of the way.  I don’t have an artistic bone in my body, however Chad helped me create a gorgeous painting of my elderly dog that I will cherish always.  I would highly recommend Chad’s classes  – it was a lovely balance between learning new skills, being creative and also having a laugh with family and new friends!

I’m really happy with my painting

I had a fantastic time at this paint and sip studio!

Learning to paint my dog was a blast, and Chad made it easy and fun.

The atmosphere was great, and I’m really happy with my painting. Highly recommend!

The Chroma Club is a creative, welcoming spot for both adults and kids to learn new art techniques, make friends, and boost their confidence.

The founder, Kim, used to work in textile design, so she brings a special flair for colour and abstract art to her hands-on lessons.

For families, their full-day school holiday camps are a great way to keep kids busy and inspired.

Some parents even told us that their teenager took the moody portrait oil painting intensively and was seriously impressed by how encouraging and supportive the teachers were throughout.

The only thing to keep in mind is that their adult classes require a five-week commitment, which could be a bit much if your schedule tends to change.

Pros

  • Moody portrait oil painting for teens
  • Structured step-by-step kids programs
  • Half and full-day school holiday camps
  • Run by an experienced former textile designer

Cons

  • Adult classes require a 5-week commitment

Customer Reviews:

You’re such a great teacher

Thanks Kim, the adults class was fantastic! I was a bit nervous at first, but you made everyone feel comfortable and confident that we could do it. And we did! You’re such a great teacher, the way you guided us step by step really helped the artwork come together. Such a fun and encouraging experience.
