The 5 Best Acting Schools on the Gold Coast to Cure Shy Guy Syndrome

  • Curriculum Focus: We checked if the school prioritises screen acting, theatre, or a mix of both. This helps actors find training that aligns perfectly with their specific career goals.
  • Faculty Experience: Our review looked directly at the professional backgrounds of the mentors and coaches. Learning from working actors and directors gives you a clear advantage in a highly competitive industry.
  • Class Sizes: We evaluated the student-to-teacher ratio for each adult program. Smaller groups ensure you get enough individual feedback to actually improve your craft.
  • Career Support: We investigated the extra services offered beyond standard weekly classes. Studios providing professional showreel filming or dedicated self-tape facilities scored much higher on our list.

If you’ve ever caught yourself daydreaming about stepping onto a stage, finding the right place to train is a great first step. In fact, many local actors also hone their craft in small theatre schools before teaming up with local videographers for their showreels.

Luckily, the city has some fantastic acting resources to help you build your skills and confidence. To make things easier, we’ve put together a list of the best acting schools on the Gold Coast.

So, if you’re ready to take your acting skills to the next level, read on to meet our top picks!

But it’s worth noting that the studio operates temporarily from a home space, so you lack a large commercial facility. You also can’t get makeup sessions or credits for any missed classes.

They offer distinct progression tracks for beginners through advanced performers. You can easily supplement your core training with masterclasses in US accents and comedy acting.

Their 15-week professional program also combines audition preparation with on-set technical skills for a truly comprehensive education.

We actually visited their self-tape rooms recently and were impressed by the broadcast-quality camera and lighting setups available for students.

However, the curriculum caters heavily to cameras, so theatre enthusiasts should look elsewhere. The professional 15-week program also requires a strict audition process just to enter.

  • Dedicated screen acting focus
  • Offers beginner-to-advanced progression tracks
  • Professional self-tape rooms
  • Masterclasses cover accents and comedy

Cons

  • Curriculum caters heavily to cameras

Script analysis is second to none

The best acting studio on the Gold Coast. I’ve been training at the Warehouse Workshop for 3 years now and I can’t recommend it enough.

Phil Holder is an outstanding teacher and his real on-set experience as a successful working actor brings something to the classroom that you simply can’t fake. The way he teaches character development and script analysis is second to none. If you’re a new actor or just want to hone your skills, this is the place.

The teachers are realistic and fantastic

Love the Warehouse. Did a short course and then a year long course and learnt so much, not only about acting for the screen. I had great people in my course and the teachers are realistic and  fantastic. Now I’m studying to work behind the camera!

3. National Academy of Performing Arts

national-academy-of-performing-arts

Website:https://napa.com.au/

Address: 3 Stevenson Ct, Burleigh Heads

Contact: (07) 5520 6000

Hours: Monday-Thursday, 3:30 PM – 8:30 PM | Saturday, 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM

National Academy of Performing Arts teaches both stage and screen acting alongside dance and vocal disciplines. This triple-threat curriculum shapes versatile performers ready for demanding musical theatre careers.

You’ll pursue nationally recognised qualifications here, including Certificate IV and Diploma options. You can even join the NAPA Ensemble to gain practical experience performing in live cabarets and plays.

Their massive facility also houses three dance studios and a dedicated theatre.

However, their Certificate III and IV are aimed at Grades 9 to 12, while the Diploma is for Grade 12 and above. Because of this, older adults looking for regular weekly acting classes may find the academy less suitable.

Pros

  • Stage and screen acting
  • Triple-threat skill building
  • Nationally recognised diplomas
  • Dedicated on-site theatre

Cons

  • Geared toward school-age students

I would have no hesitation in recommending NAPA

My daughter has been attending NAPA for the last 2 years doing the full time Musical Theatre IV course.  She has loved every minute of the course, has made so many good friends and feels totally supported by her teachers, especially Miss Kim and Miss Lynn.  I would have no hesitation in recommending NAPA to anyone whose child is interested in theatre, dance, singing and acting.

The teaching is world-class

The teaching is world class. I’ve watched my daughter transform into a confident young woman who can make it professionally in the industry. Their shows are such high quality and we moved interstate to attend NAPA because of its reputation and success stories!

4. Creating Artists

creating-artists

Website:https://www.creatingartists.com.au/

Address: 16 St Kilda Ave, Broadbeach

Contact: [email protected] / [email protected]

Hours: Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Creating Artists bases their screen acting approach on Dr Kylie Loveday’s published research and a science-backed theoretical framework. You learn highly specific mental tools to manage audition anxiety and deliver peak performances on camera.

A friend of mine took their mindset coaching sessions and noticed an immediate boost in their on-set confidence.

The school supplements these psychological techniques with practical accent workshops and structured business coaching. You can also book their local self-tape facilities to shoot professional auditions without travelling far.

But be aware that you’ll pay premium surcharges for weekend or after-hours self-tape sessions.

Additionally, several key services, including the mindset coaching, happen entirely over Zoom.

Pros

  • Science-based acting approach
  • Dedicated mindset coaching
  • Broadbeach self-tape location
  • Specific business training

Cons

  • Surcharges and after-hours for weekend tapes
  • Coaching happens via Zoom

The physical infrastructure here easily outpaces typical acting studios. You can access eight performance spaces, podcast studios, a gym, and on-site physiotherapy.
